The Board appointed Mike Walker Chair of the Committee on Ministry.
The Board passed a motion approving the expenditure of up to $785 to move up to three donated pianos. Mark reported that he had already been offered two pianos, both in excellent condition, and that he was hoping for a third. These pianos will replace instruments which would be prohibitively costly to repair.
The Board passed a motion approving the expenditure of up to $4000 for Rev. Lou’s Installation Service.
The Board appointed Jim Wamsley Chair of the Green Sanctuary Committee.
Reports were received from the Minister, the DRE, the Music Director, and the Treasurer.
Ric Sears gave a report of the last meeting of the Program Council. There was discussion about the possibility of changing the times of Sunday services to 9:30 and 11:15 in order to encourage more attendance at the first service. The Program Council also plans to explore the effects of either eliminating Sunday weddings, or requiring that they begin later in the afternoon. The goal would be to accommodate more church programs on Sunday.
Karen Tyson reported on the status of the Burke & Herbert Loan negotiation.
The Board, in executive session, received the report of the Right Staffing Task Force. The Board voted to release the report as soon as possible. The Board also passed a motion to appoint a Search Committee for a Business Administrator, to order the preparation of a consolidated financial statement, to initiate outsourcing of payroll, and to give notice to all administrative staff that their positions will be eliminated as of February 1, 2004, or thirty days after the Business Administrator reports to work, whichever is later.
