Social justice and action are critical components of MVUC's work in the world.

The Our Larger World program area includes:

  • Social Justice Council (Georgia Pourchot)
  • Partner Church Committee (Lisa Gillispie)
  • Blood Drive (Jim Potter)

    The Social Justice Council consists of task forces that are endorsed by the congregation each year:

  • Green Sanctuary Task Force (Suzanne Cleary)
  • Route 1 Social Action Task Force
  • Women's Reproductive Rights Task Force (Lynn Alsmeyer-Johnson)
  • Civil Liberties and Actions of Immediate Witness Task Force (Jay Holmes)
  • Please visit the Social Justice table in the Commons on Sundays before and between services.

    Membership Organizations

    Mt. Vernon Unitarian Church is also a member of the following community and religious organizations:

  • Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy

  • Speakers Series

    The Social Justice Speakers Series welcomes elected representatives, lay and inter-faith leaders, policy experts and other public figures to speak about a broad social justice agenda and offer the opportunity for a public exchange of ideas and information on a wide range of issues.
