Northern Virginia UU Revival

Sat. Sept. 27, 2008
Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington

Feed your spiritual hunger -- the liberal religious life is joyous! Celebrate our liberal faith, founded in social justice, fueled by love, and ready to grow. Renew you commitment, sing, dance, hear great sermons, and discuss living life as an intentional seeker in the modern, imperfect world, the world that is our paradise. Proof of that, if you need any, will be found in the lunch prepared by our New Orleanais chef.
And remember, sing loud!

First Unitarian Church , Lagos in Danger of Losing Building

First Unitarian Church, Lagos.is having problems with the Lagos State Government over the non-approval of their church building. About five weeks ago that the government came calling on them asking them to produce their approval papers and giving them a two weeks ultimatum or the building will be pulled down. They were able to negotiate for more time. Janie Brunson of Bridges into Africa suspects that shortly after the founder established the second congregation some 15 years ago, called First UU, he died without having formally registering with the government or else he registered and all records have vanished in the years since. The church was built on land he owned so the church has always been fully owned by the congregation. The financial implication of this for the congregation runs to about half a million naira (about $4,000) based on the information they have from the government.

Open Door Housing Fund's UU Roots Are Still Strong

Calling all socially responsible investors and all who care about economic justice and affordable housing. Last July, UUAHC merged with the Washington Area Housing Trust Fund to create the largest locally based loan fund with lending capital of more than $17 million. A new UU Faith-Based Advisory Board Committee has formed to assist the OpenDoor Housing Fund in strengthening our UU connections. OpenDoor's faith-based roots are very important to its mission, and if you would like to know more or to contribute to the UU Faith-Based Fund Go to the new website
