(B) Serves as a support group for the minister and a communication channel between the minister and the congregation. Charged with the oversight of the health and well-being of the various ministries within the congregation. May serve as ombudsman when conflicts arise between members of the congregation about matters directly concerning MVUC, and where the presence of a neutral third party may be of assistance.
(E) Elected by the congregation at the Annual Meeting in April, this group nominates candidates for leadership positions to be elected at the next Annual Meeting.
(B) Advises the Board of Trustees and the Executive
Committee on all personnel matters (such as salaries and benefits, annual
performance reviews, leave and holidays) affecting professional and support
staff.
Solicits articles and information from staff and members of
the congregation, edits as needed, determines priorities and placement and
produces camera-ready layout for submission to the printer. The print version is
processed for mailing by a group of volunteers. The electronic version is sent
immediately to those who have requested delivery by email and also placed on the
MVUC website.
The website tells of forthcoming events and provides ready
access to numerous documents and other resources. It is an increasingly
important source of information for current members and friends and for
potential visitors. It is the means by which most newcomers find us.
Publicizes church activities and events as part of the church's Public Outreach efforts.
Oversees all areas of church finances. This includes recommending an annual budget for approval by the Board of Trustees, monitoring the Operating Fund and other church funds, reviewing monthly and yearly financial reports, and advising the Board on the best sources of funds for accomplishing the objectives of MVUC.
(B) Accepts contributions and manages the growing Endowment Fund (currently about $650,000), which is intended to help secure, strengthen, and extend the long-term survival and mission of MVUC and Unitarian Universalism. When the Fund reaches $1,000,000, income from the Fund will be available for property maintenance, program enhancements, and assistance during financial emergencies. Members and friends of MVUC are encouraged to make contributions to the Endowment Fund through commemorative gifts or estate planning.
Accepts and acknowledges monetary gifts to MVUC. Undesignated gifts go to the Endowment Fund. (Proposed gifts of items other than money may also be accepted.)
Arranges for temporary use of church property by individuals or community groups who wish to rent our property for classes or other small events, such as recitals. Weddings and receptions are contracted for by Nina Tisara, Rental Events Coordinator.
Organizes and oversees the annual canvass and continuing follow-up in which each member and friend is asked to make a pledge of financial support to MVUC. Pledges help the church predict future income and permit us to make financial commitments for essential services, including staff salaries.
(O) Recommends to the Board of Trustees use of the proceeds from Holiday Shop.
