YRUU - Young Religious Unitarian Universalists
YRUU
Grades 9 - 12
(See the YRUU Calendar here).
Welcome to MVUC's YRUU, a youth-run and adult-advised group active in our local church community and in the larger district-wide youth community. We're open to high school age youth, so just show up!
YRUU meets in the upstairs of the Carriage House after the For All Ages portion of the 11:15 service. Our sessions begin with a chalice lighting and reading followed by sharing of personal experiences during "check in."
Once a month, we meet for an adult-facilitated topic-based discussion. The teens identify, research, and address issues of personal, cultural, social and moral significance. On other weeks we do things such as plan our annual service (presented in February), plan or work on social justice events, or work on our curriculum.
For more information, contact the Director of Religious Education, Meagan Henry, and ask to be put in touch with the current youth leaders.
YOUTH: For information on district youth events, go to the
Joseph Priestley District Youth Steering Committee website. If you're not on the Google group, get on it! It's always maintained by one (or more) of the youth. To get to it go
here and search "MVUC YRUU" and the first two results are the youth and parent groups. You will have to register for a Google account, you don't need to change your E-Mail, you just use your current one.
If you are an MVUC member and would like youth to help out with something (book sale, painting your house, babysitting, social action, acrobatics, etc.), and you don't know who to talk to, contact Meagan Henry (703) 765-5950 ext. 105, who can direct you to a member of YRUU. If you'd like to be an adviser for us (commit to us, and you get our unconditional love), also talk to Meagan!
