FINANCE

Finance Committee
Oversees all areas of church finances. This includes recommending an annual budget for approval by the Board of Trustees, monitoring the Operating Fund and other church funds, reviewing monthly and yearly financial reports, and advising the Board on the best sources of funds for accomplishing the objectives of MVUC.

Endowment Fund Committee
Accepts contributions and manages the growing Endowment Fund (currently about $650,000), which is intended to help secure, strengthen, and extend the long-term survival and mission of MVUC and Unitarian Universalism. When the Fund reaches $1,000,000, income from the Fund will be available for property maintenance, program enhancements, and assistance during financial emergencies. Members and friends of MVUC are encouraged to make contributions to the Endowment Fund through commemorative gifts or estate planning.

Gifts and Bequests Volunteer
Accepts and acknowledges monetary gifts to MVUC. Undesignated gifts go to the Endowment Fund. (Proposed gifts of items other than money may also be accepted.)

Rentals Volunteer
Arranges for temporary use of church property by individuals or community groups who wish to rent our property for classes or other small events, such as recitals. Weddings and receptions are contracted for by the Rental Events Coordinator.

Stewardship Pledges Committee
Organizes and oversees the annual canvass and continuing follow-up in which each member and friend is asked to make a pledge of financial support to MVUC. Pledges help the church predict future income and permit us to make financial commitments for essential services, including staff salaries.

Susan B. Anthony Committee
Recommends to the Board of Trustees use of the proceeds from Holiday Shop. Funds are intended for desirable projects that are not included in the annual operating fund.

PROPERTY

Property Committee

Greenhouse Group
Members participate in the propagation of and caring for annuals, perennials, herbs, heirloom tomatoes, and some tropical plants in our historic greenhouse. They also design and care for gardens on the church grounds. Plants are sold to the public in the Spring, Fall and at Holiday Shop. The greenhouse activities are self-funding including the maintenance of the building. A portion of the annual income from plant sales is contributed to the church budget.

Site Keepers Volunteer
Coordinates garden plot assignments, through which individuals or families maintain designated areas of the property.

Memorial Walks Committee
Responsible for planning, financing, and administering “The Memorial Walks,” a contemplative area of the MVUC grounds dedicated to the memorialization of deceased members and their immediate family members. Oversees the maintenance of the Memorial Walks area, placement of names on the plaques, and alternative forms of ash internment.
