Charter of the Intern Minister Support Committee
1. Purpose
To help the intern minister develop and hone the personal and professional skills of ministry.
2. Type of Committee and Program Area
Temporary committee in the Administration program area during the period when the church has an intern.
3. Membership
Five to seven members invited by the Minister who serve for the duration of the internship.
4. Chairperson
The chairperson is invited to serve by the Minister.
5. Activities, Duties, and Responsibilities
The committee’s primary function is to contribute to the ministerial formation of the intern. In monthly meetings the members advise, support, listen, give feedback, and evaluate the intern in his or her personal and professional development as a minister. They also send two written evaluation reports to the Unitarian Universalist Association.
6. Authority Delegated or Retained
Committee members are expected to work cooperatively with the Minister, who serves as the intern’s supervisor. The Board of Trustees retains responsibility for all financial and personnel decisions concerning the internship.
7. Annual Plan and Assessment; Recruitment and Community
The Committee shall meet at least once during the first quarter of the Church year, and approve a written plan with priorities for Committee activities that is consistent with its charter and supports the mission, vision and goals of the Church. This annual plan shall be provided to the Program Council by September 1 of each Church year. The Committee also shall assess its activities, budget and charter on an annual basis, and provide an annual report and any recommendations to the Program Council by March 1 of each Church year. The recruitment for members shall seek to build community.
