Charter Stewardship

1. Purpose

Conducts campaigns and programs to foster stewardship and obtain financial commitments from members and friends.

2. Type of Committee and Program Area

This is a chartered committee in the Administration and Communications program area.

3. Membership

Membership is open to any interested member or friend.Membership increases during the annual stewardship campaign to include those who accept major roles in the campaign.The minister, church administrator, and treasurer are non voting members.Cross-membership with the Finance Committee is desirable.

4. Chairperson

Appointed by the Board of Trustees for a one-year renewable term.

5. Activities, Duties, and Responsibilities

Plans and execute the annual stewardship campaign, including development of the annual campaign plan (to be approved by the Board of Trustees), preparation of campaign literature, recruiting and training of visiting stewards, selection of households to be approached in the campaign, planning and execution of receptions and annual stewardship dinner, and follow-up to secure all available financial commitments.Provides completed financial commitment cards to the congregational administrator for entry into the church database.Solicits stewardship commitments from new members shortly after they join.

6. Authority Delegated or Retained

Committee chair and others designated by the committee chair are authorized to access the church database to obtain names, addresses, prior financial commitment information, and other information needed to plan and execute stewardship activities.The committee chair may, with due regard for protecting the privacy of individual members, make selected information available to others for the purpose of planning or executing stewardship activities.

7.Annual Assessment

The committee will assess its activities on an annual basis and will review this charter annually to reassess its adequacy and to recommend any proposed changes, or no requested changes, to the BOT.
